Saddam, the latest tyrant born to taunt
Democracy’s pacific trend and flaunt
Contempt for liberty and human rights,
Provoking neighbours into bitter fights
In hopes of vantage through confused recoil
From economic ruin on their soil.
Ruthless conspirer, vicious autocrat
Of tribal factions, ruler by diktat;
This would-be new Colossus stands so tall
His pride’s huge vanity must bring his fall
When Nemesis, (as is her wont), descends
In Hubris’ shadow to effect amends.
About Saddam both myth and history are agreed:
He’ll only be proved great if all his plans succeed.
